How can naturopathic medicine help you?
The longer I practice, the more I realize a huge part of naturopathic treatment involves education. Many people do not realize there is an alternative that involves treating the cause of the symptoms, rather than simply masking them with drugs. Often people are resigned to popping pills, which can be expensive, time-consuming, and cause unwanted side-effects. Some people have never heard of naturopathic medicine and are unaware of the benefits. Others are simply skeptical.
With more and more people turning to natural remedies and so much conflicting literature, it can be very difficult to separate fads from scientifically proven treatments. This is where a naturopath is beneficial. We are trained in the anatomy and physiology of the body, understand how to interpret lab results, perform physical exams, study pharmaceuticals, and learn in great detail the modern scientific and historical eclectic uses of natural treatments such as nutrition, herbs, supplements, acupuncture, etc.
I want to use this space to teach people how to live healthy while providing some safe and effective tips for common ailments that can be used by people of all ages, in varying degrees of health. I look forward to sharing some naturopathic strategies for healthy living with you!

I’ve always been intrigued with naturopathic medicine. Like you said, not everything need be cured via drugs.
My family thinks I’m crazy but for headaches, which I get a lot of, I just either sleep it off or leave it be. I don’t know of a surefire remedy for them but I’m sure drugs are not the only way…

Hi!
My first time on this kind of page. My wife was just diagnosed by doctors with a large (toonie size) cyst on one thyroid and 5 small ones on the other. They say her thyroid is not very active right now and had an intersting treatment:
They want to kill the thyroid with pills and put her on thyroid drugs for the rest of her life. They figure the thyroid is feeding the cysts and if they are ded, then the cyst will dissolve. She is 37 years old.
Although I can accept the the cysts are there and that is fact. But is this the only way to address this. I just can’t help but think that there must be some way of reversing this thyroid activity from within.
Any suggestions?
Marc

Hi Marc,
Thanks for reading! It’s difficult for me to offer too many suggestions without talking to your wife, doing an examination, and looking at any lab results. I am always wary when the medical profession wants to eliminate an organ: we have all of our organs for a reason! Taking out the thyroid will eventually impact the adrenals and ovaries. I think it is more important to look at why the thyroid is under-functioning and causing cysts to grow. My advice would be to consult a naturopath in your area for a second opinion. If you let me know where you live, I can recommend someone.
Good luck and wish your wife all the best for me.
