I support the Street to Homes programs but I believe we need to ask the homeless what they need to make their lives better (thereby making our lives better and not deciding for them what they need which usually does not solve anything but spending more money) The funds spent need to address the issues identified by the homeless suffering these issues not the bureaucrats who think they know what will solve the issues. They haven't got a clue! Perhaps we can give these hard working people a chance to make the money they need by cleaning up the downtown scene since they obviously need funds to live and are willing to work for them (cleaning windshields) Let's put them to work on something necessary, something that will not only resolve their issues but also build self esteem and decision making skills for them and also at the same time clean up our city downtown areas which are in dire need. It would be a better option that spending millions on contractors that charge us an arm and a leg when we actually have residents in need of work, willing to work for reasonable wages and we can enhance their lives as well as our own and the state of downtown at a reasonable cost with human and financial benefits to all concerned, But, I suppose this would make too much sense for politicians to think about. Why not ask the homeless washing those windshields and panhandling on the street what might help them stop panhandling...,..paid wages doing good work that is necessary might be the answer.

Well, well, well...

Isn't that just like Ootes... a very small man with an even smaller heart! Unfortunately, I live in Ward 29 and he is STILL my councillor... woo-hoo. Trust me, I'm justifiably complaining about this ignorant excuse for a public servant because I worked really hard in the last municipal election to unseat him. I worked on the Diane Alexopoulos campaign and we were robbed. There were some very underhanded shinanigans being utilized by members of his campaign team that day and evening... all, no doubt, approved by him.

Unfortunately, we have to put up with him until the next municipal election. He says he isn't going to run again, but who knows? That could have just been a ploy used by him to wring out more sympathy votes in the last election too. Anyway, at least this little scheme backfired in his face. Sometimes living well is the best revenge... and hopefully these members of the city's underclass and underprivileged will actually benefit from yet another one of Ootes misguided ideas... remember the whole bicycle lane fiasco on Sammon Avenue? This man needs to be removed from public office, and the sooner, the better!!!
